About the Building
The Sam M. Gibbons U.S. Courthouse, located in Tampa, Florida, is a significant structure named after Sam Melville Gibbons, a long-serving and respected member of the United States Congress. Gibbons, who had a substantial impact on local and national policies, was known for his contributions to the economy, education, and veterans’ affairs throughout his career.
Opened in the 1990s, the courthouse plays a crucial role in the judiciary system of the Middle District of Florida, one of the busiest federal judicial districts in the United States. The building is architecturally significant, featuring modern design elements that accommodate the needs of a contemporary federal courthouse. It houses multiple courtrooms and judicial offices, providing space for federal district and magistrate judges, along with supporting staff.
The Sam M. Gibbons U.S. Courthouse facilitates a wide array of judicial activities, including civil and criminal federal cases. Facilities within the courthouse are designed to support the administration of justice, with considerations for security, accessibility, and the effective operation of the legal process.
Beyond its functional aspects, the courthouse stands as a symbol of justice and public service in Tampa, reflecting the legacy of Sam Gibbons and his dedication to serving the public and improving the community. We work with the General Services Administration (GSA) to manage the courthouse, ensuring that it meets federal standards for operations, cleanliness, and sustainability.
