About the Building
The Robert F. Peckham Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse is a prominent structure located in downtown San Jose, California. Named in honor of Robert Francis Peckham, a noted figure who served as a United States district judge, the building serves multiple functions, primarily housing various federal agencies and judicial offices, including several courtrooms for the United States District Court for the Northern District of California.
Robert Francis Peckham, after whom the building is named, was a distinguished jurist known for his progressive rulings on civil rights, school desegregation, and prison reform. His career and contributions to the judiciary and community are commemorated through the naming of this federal building.
The Peckham Building, as it’s often referred to, stands as a vital part of San Jose’s civic and legal landscape, offering a range of services beyond its function as a courthouse. It includes offices for federal law enforcement agencies, bankruptcy courts, and other government services. Designed with modern architectural elements, the building aims to provide a secure, functional, and welcoming environment for both employees and the public who utilize its services.
Accessibility and security are paramount, and we work with the General Services Administration (GSA) in overseeing the management, maintenance, and operation of the facility to ensure it meets federal standards for efficiency, safety, and environmental sustainability.
